Cornucopia of Thanksgiving Blunderbuss Videos

By: | Few American holidays have a closer relationship to a particular firearm than Thanksgiving. Next to turkeys, Pilgrims and Indians the tried-and-true blunderbuss is one of the celebration’s most recognizable symbols. But the unmistakable gun was more than just a tool used to put meat on the table. The blunderbuss — Dutch for “thunder pipe” — was also a merciless weapon favored by pirates, cavalries and colonial militias. Check out the following videos to brush up on some of the finer points of the blunderbuss and, of course, watch a few people drop the hammer on the gun.   Auto Parts Warehouse - FREE SHIPPING. Texas Game Wardens “Like” End Result of Angler’s Facebook Post

luis_castro--~ AUSTIN – A South Texas man has pled guilty to nine charges of possession of oversized red drum, one charge of no saltwater fishing license, and one charge of exceeding the possession limit for red drum. The investigation leading to the filing of charges against 30-year-old Luis Castro began with a Facebook post showing a man holding a large red drum with eight other oversize drum on display in the bed of a pickup truck. (The bag limit for redfish is three per day, and they must be between 20 and 28 inches. Only one redfish longer than that can be kept, and only with a properly completed redfish tag attached to it.) On Nov. 1, game wardens in Cameron County were contacted about the Facebook picture, which had originally been placed on line by Castro’s brother. Accompanying the image was the comment, “just for fun.” Game wardens ended up receiving multiple complaints regarding the Facebook post. TPWD dispatchers and game wardens were able to review records which eventually resulted in the positive identification of Castro and his place of employment. On Nov. 6, game wardens interviewed Castro and obtained a signed written statement. Five days later, Willacy County Justice of the Peace George Solice issued an arrest warrant for Castro and game wardens arrested him the same day. Following arraignment, he was released with a court date of Nov. 19. “Anglers on several social media sites were posting negative comments, and a day after the picture was originally posted, it was removed,” said Game Warden Maj. Alan Teague. “However, the picture had been saved by many anglers and reposted.” Teague said the picture made it to fishing groups as far away as Florida. “With tips from anglers and hard work by our game wardens and dispatchers, we were able to track the individual to a city in South Texas,” Teague said. During sentencing, Justice of the Peace Solice noted how important recreational fishing is to the people in Willacy County which includes Port Mansfield. Before sentencing Castro, the judge pointed out that there are people in the county whose livelihood depends upon the quality and future of recreational fishing. “It was an obscene number of fish that you caught,” the judge said to the defendant. “We are all living paycheck-to-paycheck but none of us are going hungry. It was completely unnecessary to take that many fish.” Castro was fined $2,600 and an additional $2,645.91 will be assessed as part of the civil restitution.

5 Things You Must Know About Concealed Carry Holsters | Living Ready Online

Editor’s Note: This article on concealed carry holsters is excerpted from Gun Digest 2014, the world’s foremost annual book about firearms. How-to-Buy-Concealed-Carry-Holsters Concealed Carry Holsters: Plan on Them Not Feeling Right…YetSome effort is required to find the right concealed carry holster, but no matter what the choice, there is always an acclimation period. Some handguns are more ergonomic than others, but few are completely devoid of sharp edges.Concealed Carry Holsters: Don’t Spend All Your Money but Don’t Buy JunkA quality concealed carry holster goes a long way toward making carrying a defensive handgun bearable. There are many choices, and some are readily available. Blackhawk, DeSantis, and Galco are among the best-known and most reliable mass-produced holsters. There are fine concealed carry holsters that are custom made and that might be said to be examples of the maker’s art. These are not inexpensive and often take weeks, if not months, to obtain.Still, while the concepts of inexpensive and high quality don’t always go together, there are good holsters offering a balance of value and cost.Concealed Carry Holsters: Kydex is as Good as LeatherLeather is attractive, but these days, Kydex, a thermoplastic resin, is a more popular concealed carry holster material. (Do not confuse Kydex with ordinary cheap plastic, which isn’t durable enough for the rigors of concealed carry.)There are tradeoffs inherent in Kydex, but there are also advantages. One of the biggest pluses is that the material is maintenance-free and impervious to solvents or moisture.A tradeoff, if it can be called one, is that a leather holster maintains security on the long bearing surfaces of the pistol, while the Kydex holster keeps its grip primarily on the muzzle and trigger guard area. Of the downsides? Some say Kydex will wear the finish off a pistol quickly, but so does properly fitted leather.Concealed Carry Holsters: Pick a Manageable, Accurate CaliberClick here to check out the best concealed carry holsters, as picked by Living Ready’s sister pub, Gun Digest. My choice in defensive handguns is based on many years of practical experience. Having been in the wrong place at the wrong time more than once, and having written quite a few reports concerning shootings and other mayhem, I am aware of the relative wound potential of different handguns.I prefer the .45 ACP and the .357 Magnum. The .38 Special and 9mm+P are also realistic minimum calibers. I’ll always lean towards one that is manageable and accurate.Concealed Carry Holsters: Examine Your WardrobeConcealing a serious defensive handgun under lightweight garments can be problematic. If the handgun is short and compact, an outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster under a sport shirt will work fine, but, for most of us, the inside-the-waistband holster (IWB) is superior.Your covering garment is important. I have adopted a Kakadu sport shirt for much of my concealment needs. This shirt is made of Gravel canvas and has a leather collar. I admit it is stylish, but it also conceals a holster well without printing the outline of it for the world to see.Sign Up for the Living Ready E-NewsletterIf you enjoyed this article on concealed carry holsters, be sure to enter your e-mail in the box below. One Thing To Have Disaster Survival Kits

survivalkit Written by Everyone keeps saying that the world is going to end and it is just a matter of years. How long? No one knows. Bible theorists say that there will be disaster all around before it happens. So, when the disaster hits, government wants you'ready. That is why they have come out with disaster survival kits. What can you expect to see in these? When thinking of the things that every kit has to have, the first thing that comes to mind should be food and water. The water should be enough that everyone can have a few sips as you do not want to get dehydrated. The food should last at least three days and should not spoil. Everyone recommends using canned food. Battery operated equipment is also good to have around. This includes a radio as that is how the officials get important warnings and directions to individuals before after and during bad times. The other thing that you should have is a cell phone because things that happen quickly need to be warned about to the officials so they can send out warnings. As well as a flashlight if you are asked to seek shelter or go to a meeting place when power is out. Sometimes you are asked to move to different locations or check things on your house. Again this might be when you have no power. So the rule of thumb with this is to always keep batteries and flashlights on hand. Some people make sure that they have first aid kits. While some do this everyone should do this. It might be a bit of time before someone can make it to where you are in the case of an emergency. Along with that you should have forms of identification so that if someone is unconscious they can tend to you. Keeping things that can help the workers to get you proper care is always good. You might not even think about the small things, but pets and infants are the ones you'really have to worry about. There are things that they cannot eat and so forth. You might not be thinking about that when the time comes. To help this, you should have the formula, diapers, and wipes on hands for infants and the dog food and cat food on hand for the pets. You might be trapped so having blankets with you can help you. People get cold fast and when you are in shock that is no fun. You could actually die from that. So, make sure you have those things around. They can be of great need whether you'realize that or not. When you have these items you can be sure that you are prepared for the worst. Many people laugh it off, but anything could happen. They need to know who you are in these times of need and you have to have the resources to keep yourselves alive. Custom Taurus Judge, with jeweled trigger and hammer. Taurus Judge decked out with the Aimpro Tactical’s custom treatment. When the Taurus Judge first popped on the scene sometime around 2007, the big bore wheelgun, capable of firing virtually every .45-caliber round ever developed as well as .410 shotgun shells, was regaled for its novelty more so than respected for its true intention: to create one bad ass defensive handgun. But regardless of what drove the initial interest in the Judge, the interest was indeed there, and has continued so that Taurus continues to add configurations to the line (there are now at least a dozen models of the Judge) that continues to garner plenty of fans—no small feat in this age of semi-auto handgunning. Thus it is no surprise that when Taurus approached Aimpro Tactical’s Mike Shain about teaming up to develop a line of customized Taurus handguns, among the first models worked on was a Judge. For the one pictured here, Shain started with a standard Model 4510TKR-3B Judge with a 3-inch barrel, blued finish and 2 ½-inch chambering for either .410 or .45 Long Colt rounds. The revolver’s overall length is a compact 7 ½ inches for such a big bore gun and tips the scales at a mere 29 ounces. As standard, the model comes with fixed sights, including a fiber optic front sight. “The Judge is such a cool handgun and has become so popular because shooters can mix and match the ammo. Some manufacturers are even making special rounds just for the Judge,” says Mike Shain, owner of Aimpro Tactical (aimprotactical.com) in Colorado. The company opened in 1995 primarily as a training and consulting business with Shain using his background in law enforcement as the driver. They soon moved into customizing and building special tactical Mossberg shotguns. “I’ve been wanting to expand into the pistol and revolver area and the planets have finally lined up for us,” says Shain. With the Judge, Aimpro Tactical applied its performance package to the traditional double-action revolver offering. First, they break the entire gun down and polish up and fine tune the double-action operation to make it as smooth as possible. The forcing cone on the barrel is recut to 11 degrees and the barrel is chamfered to 45 degrees. By chamfering the charging hole or chamber of the cylinder so that it blends better with the ejector star, loads feed much more easily, and quickly, especially when speed loading. “It’s like reworking the magazine well of a semi-auto gun so it feeds better,” says Shain. The gun is then lubricated and functioned checked. As for the exterior of the Judge, Aimpro Tactical smooths out any hard edges on the gun, improving it for carry purposes and making it easier to draw. Applying a true custom flare, they also polish out the hammer and trigger and jewel them. Custom Taurus Judge, fine tuned to feed soother. Custom Taurus Judge, fine tuned to cycle smoother. “When I grew up jewelling was the ultimate custom feature you could do to show a gun is high-end,” says Shain. “People just twinkle at the sight at a couple of jeweled parts on their gun.” This Judge is then refinished in Xtreme-Coat, an ultra-thin moly-based coating that resists corrosion and makes the revolver even more durable than in its standard finish. The coat resists wear from use and provides a flat, nonreflective finish favorable among the tactically minded shooters of today. The frame of the gun is finished in mil-spec OD Green, while the cylinder on this model is completed in matte black. The Hogue grips on this initial Judge are black as well, though buyers also have the option of getting Hogue grips in matching OD Green as well. As for the sights, the gun boasts a fiber optic front sight on it now with the standard red replaced with a green to better match the gun. Shain is currently working on designing a new sight for future models that will include a yellow fiber optic front sight to match flat dark earth finished guns, as well as options of brass, tritium or white. The Judge isn’t the only Taurus receiving Aimpro Tactical’s custom treatment. Already, Shain has worked on a package gun .357 Model 617, a semi-auto 247 and a .44-caliber Raging Bull among others. Taurus will market the customized handguns as exclusives through select distributors, but Shain says if somebody sees one like this, but can’t find it at their local shop or wants to customize a handgun they already own in a similar fashion, they can contact Aimpro Tactical and request them to work one up for them. The custom Judge here has a suggested retail price of $620, which translates into buyers actually being able to buy them in stores in the low $500s and possibly even around $450. For shooters looking to have their Taurus’ custom worked, the package price for the performance work, the X-Coat finish and the jeweling runs around $225. Or pick and choose the work you want done at a la carte prices of $125 for the performance work, $125 for the X-Coat or $50 for the jeweling. Deer Hunting Tips - What Conditions Affect Antler Size?

mule deer Written by Sometimes, the most useful deer hunting tips have to do with herd management. To prize hunters, the goal is to harvest a deer with big antlers. We aspire to one day get that huge rack. All of us hear about and tell each other tales of huge antlers; points, spread, diameter, length of tine... However, do you know what really makes a difference in regards to antler size? Antler size is affected by three major factors: 1. Heredity 2. Diet 3. The Age of the Deer The genetics of a deer help to determine how big the antlers have the "potential" to get. In other words maximum antler size is a trait that is inherited. This is a fact that experienced deer hunters and game managers know and that science has proven. Leases are often managed in a way to produce the biggest bucks by limiting the size of the antlers that are permitted to be harvested. The gene pool of a deer population can be "antlered up" by limiting the number of deer that can be killed who have genetically superior racks and increasing the kill rate of those buck with genetically inferior racks. The actual effect of these strategies is questionable, but the though process and fact basis of this practice is very sensible. The fact is that culling of deer with inferior genetics is seldom possible when you consider the number of other deer killed within a population. Nutrition is the second factor which determines antler size. Even with optimal genetics, the deer will not realize its full potential if the animal does not receive the proper nutrition. Most experienced hunters have hunted through seasons where drought has affected the food sources for the deer and the large antlered deer just weren't there. It is crucial for the deer population to receive adequate nutrition year-round if they are to reach their antler producing potential. Most antler growth takes place during the Spring and Summer months so this is the most important time. Inferior foliage growth during these months can greatly limit antler growth. Good habitat management can help alleviate the toll taken. Supplemental feedings are sometimes needed. The final factor is age, however research suggests that once a buck has reached 3+ years of age genetics and nutrition play a larger part in antler growth. The size of the antler tends to increase greatly during the first few years of age and then to level off sometime between the fourth to sixth year depending on the breed and its genetics. For this reason, the harvesting of bucks younger than 4 years is not encouraged. The practice by insensitive hunters of culling bucks that are too young can lead to such colorful expressions from more experienced hunters as, "That deer still had milk on its breath." It is best overall to harvest only the mature bucks. If you are in need of venison and a mature buck is not in evidence then harvest a doe. The hunt next season will reap the benefit. 120x90 Banner

secondamen Written by Any discussion of Rights should begin with an understanding of the following: Rights do not come from government. Only privileges come from government. Privileges that be granted by government can also be taken away by government. Rights do not come from the Constitution either. The Constitution only protects Rights the people had long before the Constitution was written. All Rights come from God. Therefore, God is the only one who can take those rights away. The only legitimate way a person can lose their Rights is by voluntarily giving them up through actions that violate another persons Rights. Governments or individuals who violate God-given Rights must believe themselves superior to God or they must believe that God does not exist. The Constitution identifies many Rights, e.g., speech, press, religion, etc., all of which fit into one of three categories - Life, Liberty, or Property. The possession of these basic Rights are all necessary for the Pursuit of Happiness. Violation of any one of the three by government is tyranny. Several of the Founders suggested the following slogan for our Great Seal, "Resistance to Tyranny is Obedience to GOD". We are to protect and defend our Rights with whatever means it takes. Our right to bear arms is the main right that protects and defends all of the other Rights. If we were to lose the Right To Bear Arms, all other rights could possibly be lost as well! We should never allow ourselves to get drawn into a frivolous discussion over what type of gun is suitable for hunting, sport shooting, etc., because those issues have nothing what-so-ever to do with the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Peace Through Strength is always the best policy for the military and for individuals. The right to keep and bear arms not only predates the writing of the Second Amendment, it also predates the discovery of firearms, because the right to defend one's right to Life, Liberty, and Property came with the Creation of Man. Here are a few quotes from Our founding fathers and some great leaders of our country: "The Constitution shall never be construed...to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms." Alexander Hamilton "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence... From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to ensure peace, security, and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable...The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference--they deserve a place of honor with all that's good." George Washington. "Arms in the hands of citizens [may] be used at individual discretion...in private self-defense..." John Adams. "No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." Thomas Jefferson. "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. A well-regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country..." James Madison "To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them..." Richard Henry Lee. Gerber Applegate-fairbairn Black Covert

Written by

Designed by the Legendary Colonel Rex Applegate the Gerber Applegate Fairbairn knife embodies his vision of a folding combat knife. Gerber's Applegate-Fairbairn knife is distinguished by it's one-handed opening and it's liner lock which makes this knife suitable for many situations. The Covert is a 3/4 version of the larger Applegate Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife. Designed for inconspicuous carry and covert operations, the Covert has a reversible stainless steel pocket clip which allows for use in a variety of positions. It has an opening stud on both sides of the knife and is readily adaptable for left-handed use. The black titanium coated blade is made from ATS-34 stainless steel and coated with black titanium nitride (nice huh?). The Applegate Fairbairn Covert also is the first knife to incorporate the Interlock, a Gerber exclusive feature. The Interlock is a safety feature that firmly locks the liner in place preventing accidental unlocking of the blade. The extra research and effort put into the Interlock technology allows you to use the knife with as much force as possible and not worry about sacrificing any safety features. After all, a folding knife is as strong as it's weakest point. Normally on a folding knife the hinges are what make them less sturdy then a fixed knife. While this might be the case in general it is minimized with this knife and this allows you to have a folding knife that acts like a fixed knife. Oh my! Three cheers for Gerber Knives. Hip hip, Hooray! Hip hip, Hooray! Hip hip, Hooray! The Applegate-Fairbairn Covert stands with the Applegate-Fairbairn Combat as one of the lasting symbols of Colonel Rex Applegate dedication, expertise, and sense of purpose to Gerber and Gerber Knives. It should come as no surprise that Applegate Covert knife is known internationally as best-of-class among folding tactical knives. It has deservingly earned a reputation for unmatched strength, durability and balance which are all trademarks of Gerber Knives. Tactical professionals have high fancy for the high carbon stainless steel blade. As well as the glass-filled nylon handles, and the patented Roto-Lock. Opening the blade is smooth and can be accomplished in the closed position with a good flick of the wrist. The ambidextrous thumb studs, which are stepped and work well even with a sweaty thumb, and the hump for the thumb stud can even be used like the Emerson wave feature. The liner lock solidly engages the blade with good depth so you won't end up with an inadvertent release of the lock. The knife is balanced the rear of the finger and thumb grooves. It's easily maneuvered and feels good in your hand. The finger ridges make one handed closing and precision work safe even with a sharpened second edge. Features * Uncommon strength and balance * 154CM blade with titanium nitride coating * Patented Roto-Lock Specifications * Overall Length: 8.7" * Blade Length: 3.78" * Closed Length: 4.9" * Weight: 4.2 oz. * Lock Mechanism: Liner Lock, Roto-Lock * Blade Style: Spear * Blade Material: 154CM * Blade Type: Double bevel * Handle Material Glass-filled nylon * Opening Style: One-handed opening Conclusion The Applegate Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife is a decent knife with plenty of cutting edge even with the serrations. The History Of Daisy Air Guns

daisy

Written by Charles Cundrum

Daisy air guns are one of those product names that just about everybody, even those who never picked one up, are familiar with. Daisy has probably the most colorful of all air gun histories invoking more nostalgia among particularly men of all ages who at some time in their lives have owned one of the multitude of Daisy air gun models. Daisy still makes air rifles today after a 130 year history. And their moderately priced and still highly popular guns are sold around the world. Daisy had numerous competitors in its early years including Matchless, Atlas and Markham among others. Many of the early air rifles from these various companies were crude with limited product lines. When Daisy air guns came on the scene, the company's high quality products and marketing savvy shot them quickly past their competitors. In fact, Daisy purchased one of their major competitors in 1928. Otherwise, Daisy's competitors from the early days faded away pretty quickly under the onslaught of the highly advanced products and marketing savvy of Daisy. National trends quickly became part of the company's trademark qualities as it caught on to America's gravitation toward companies that show that they care about the same thing mainstream USA cares about. From World War I through WWI Daisy air guns took on names and shapes of the military rifles of the day with campaigns following a theme of "future defenders" appealing to parents and kids who dreamed of defending their country from enemies, both domestic and foreign. Daisy also tied their name closely to American icons of the early days of America including US heroes and famous sports personality. From football players to golfers to tv and comic cowboys, famous names were attached to Daisy air guns. But the most famous cowboy of the 1930s to promote a Daisy product was the comic strip cowboy, Red Ryder. That name was launched with a new Daisy lever action air rifle in 1940 and became the top air rifle for the next 20 years. The Red Ryder remains in production in the 21st century and remains a popular bb gun still. While in modern times, paintball and air soft gun companies have cashed in on replicas of real firearms, Daisy was well ahead of its time in the 1960s when it began producing replicas of popular rifles such as the Winchester 94. Yet again, this line of innovative rifles and perceptive marketing drove Daisy to the top in yet another wave of popularity. In the late 60s and early 70s, Daisy began to produce higher power guns to be sure and keep their market share from competitors such as GAMO and Hammerli. Today, the history of Daisy air guns spans over 130 years. It remains one of the leading manufacturers of moderately priced air guns in the industry. And no matter who you talk to, when you mention the name Daisy, more likely than not, childhood memories of roaming the hills and woods with one of these guns is likely to be brought into the conversation. Because the company started and continues today to stay on the cutting edge of cultural trends and quality manufacturing methods, there's no reason that Daisy shouldn't be around for the next hundred years. How To Start A Fire Without Matches Or A Lighter

Written by Although once an essential skill, the ability to start a fire without matches or modern devices like cigarette lighters is all but lost. Nevertheless, anyone can learn how to do this and successfully start a fire in any weather. Fuel, oxygen and heat are the essential elements for fire. In this article, we'll especially consider your options for generating sufficient heat to ignite wood, since that is the most likely fuel you would be relying on in a survival situation. Without a flame from a match or lighter, how can you generate enough heat to start fire? First, you could use an old method the Indians used - rubbing sticks together. Well, it's a bit more involved than it sounds, but nevertheless, that's the idea. Friction between pieces of wood can in fact create a coal which can then be used to ignite tinder. The most common way to do this is with a drill or bow and drill combination. We'll look more closely at this method in a future article. Here's the bottom line - people who have learned to start a fire this way carry with them another method since they understand just how much work is involved in starting fire this way. So let's turn to another method - sparks. The right kind of steel can be useful to create enough sparks to light tinder. It can be a very small piece making it convenient to carry with you, ready for use at any time. One real benefit in the use of a fire steel is that if it's good quality, it will work even if it's wet. There are all kinds of them on the market, it just depends upon your favorite style. In closing, a quick word about tinder. There are many natural materials, such as bark shavings, dead moss gathered from trees, and dry grass. If you're serious enough about being skilled at fire starting that you're willing to carry a fire steel, you might also consider keeping a tiny container with tinder in it - such as cotton mixed with Vaseline. In any case, even with a fire striker, practice is essential to become skilled enough to be able to start a fire under any conditions.
